Summary

Gen X Change aims to bridge the generational gap between individuals by pairing the users based on their shared interests or goals.

Older adults may have issues with tech literacy and familiarizing themselves with the ever-evolving technological sphere. In comparison, younger audiences are generally more adept with modern gadgets and tools, making them a great source of guidance and support while working with these technologies. However, older adults may also have valuable insights into specific careers, hobbies, or fields due to their former experiences with them, in turn. These insights may be useful to younger generations that may be interested in a given field.

These unique needs and skills may offer a mutual exchange of information between parties, creating a reciprocal sharing of knowledge. Gen X Change is meant to be a space that fosters more meaningful connections and bridges the gap between generations via common interests and goals. This may reduce the effects of digital ageism and digital divide.

Design Requirements

  • Data to pair users based on their shared interests, goals, and skills that compliment the two

  • Saving data related to the shared projects and tasks

    • Storing of ongoing tasks, files, resources, and other information that may assist in completing a desired project or activity

    • Saved settings or functions that consider a user’s preferences, needs, and comfortability with the application or technology

Functional Requirements

    skills, and/or goals

    • Algorithm that automatically pairs users that suit or complement one another, decided via their profile and setup preferences.

    • Capabilities in tailoring or recommending different resources and tutorials depending on a given project or user need

  • Developmental tools or assets that push for progress towards certain goals.

  • Virtual workspace between users must encourage project management and participation among teammates.

    • Allow for file and resource sharing, on top of other project management tools like communication devices (i.e. messages or calls) and task
      tracking

Contextual Requirements

  • Cross-general collaboration between users, whereas communication between individuals of different age groups is clear and as stress-free as possible

  • Considering the differences in technical literacy and skill

  • Align with a user or group’s goals and interests to foster a meaningful mentorship or collaboration program

    • Aligned goals and interests increase engagement and minimize tension or conflict

    • Facilitate reciprocal learning and interaction, where both parties are
learning something while also contributing to a greater goal

Other

  • Accessibility and an intuitive onboarding process

    • The application is targeted towards a very wide spectrum of users, so ensuring the interface and system are adaptable to the different user needs is important

  • Customizability to these varying needs

  • The first few steps to setting up should be simple and straightforward to ensure it is not too daunting (especially for less tech-savvy users)

  • Option for personalized support via virtual assistance or a similar customer service system
